Explore our history with our wonderful museums
The Museum was incorporated in 1967.
Its collection mandate covers the areas between Jervis Inlet and Desolation Sound, including the islands of Texada, Harwood and Savary.
The Museum hosts visitors from around the world and home. Guided tours are happily given and are included in the admission. Exciting Treasure Hunts for children are available, as well as some hands on exhibits.
The
Museum's displays showcase Powell River's history.
You will find a First Nations display highlighting the fabulous
baskets still crafted by the Sliammon. Wander around and learn how
the dream of three men from Minnesota resulted in the town and the
first pulp and paper mill in Western Canada. See the collection
of old carpentry tools and logging equipment. Learn about "Billy
Goat" Smith, Powell River's hermit, and see our version of his cabin.
Linger with the albums of historic photos. Learn about Lt. Col.
John MacGregor, V.C., first Canadian over Vimy Ridge in World War
I.
Our Archives are extensive and more and more information is being entered into a data base every month.
