The Annual Spirit Run offers the runner/walker four distances to choose from: 5K, 10K or 20K, or 4-person relay for the 20K. Participants are inspired not only by the charitable purpose of the run but also by the route, which encompasses ocean-side roadways and a beautiful beach-front trail through the woods. BLACKBERRY FESTIVAL

Street party, Blackberry Festival - Dean Allchin photo
A great name for a great festival.
Locals may grumble about voluminous blackberry vines creeping opportunistically
into every corner of their yards, but it's hard to find anyone who
can resist the lure of the plump and juicy berry itself when push
comes to shove. So, in the spirit of "if you can't beat them,
join them" Powell River has come up with a unique week-long
festival sure to delight anyone interested in an old-fashioned small
town festival. The Festival occurs roughly at the peak of blackberry
season, and a highlight is the popular "Street Party"
featuring musicians, arts and crafts,
and of course food! There's also a competition for the best homemade
blackberry wine. Call 604.485-6467 for details.
